Lebanon County Kennel Club held its 18th Annual Wagswalk on Sunday, November 1, 2009. The weather was cool and cloudy, just right for the Walk. Approximately 200 walkers came out with their dogs to participate in either the 4-mile walk or the 1-mile walk. Lebanon City Police Officer Bret Fisher led the Walk with his partner, canine Officer Friday
The amount of $7,600 was collected in the way of pledges and sponsorships. Sponsors were Fifth Avenue Animal Hospital, Annville Natural Market, Animal Health Care of Myerstown, Annville-Cleona Veterinary Associates, Apple Creek Veterinary Hospital, Bob Gleason, Brandt’s Mill, David G. Vail, D.V.M., Dog Grooming by Sandy, Inc., Domino’s Pizza, East Lebanon Animal Clinic, Fischer’s Dog Grooming & Kennels, Marian L. Fuhrman, George H. Blouch Fuel Service, J.E.M. Petsitting, Dr. John F. Rill, Limestone Ridge Kennel, Marshall’s Hair & Nail Studio, Inc., Myerstown Animal Hospital, Pet Headquarters, Powder House of Daytona, Inc., Salon Bella Donna, Scott’s Transmission Center, Inc., Veterinary Medical Center of Lebanon, Inc., Stone Mill Grooming, Deborah L. Bemesderfer, Fulton Bank for use of their parking lot, Buzgon Davis Law Offices for use of their parking lot for a water station, and media sponsor WQIC radio.
After the expenses of the Walk were calculated, being off-set by the sponsors, we had a profit of a little over $5,000. Two-thirds of the profit will benefit the Lebanon County Humane Society as over $3,300 was prepaid toward their fuel oil. Also five active kennel club members were chosen by lottery to pick a canine charity of their choice for the remaining one-third of the profits raised, approximately $338 each: Arlene Brauner chose Lebanon County Humane Society’s Spay/Neuter Fund; Denise Dissinger chose Lab Rescue of the Labrador Retriever Club of the Potomac and Brookline Labrador Retriever Rescue, each getting half the amount; Kristine Glant chose Lebanon City’s K-9 Unit; Linda Meyer chose Airedale Rescue of the Delaware Valley; and Linda Rose chose American Brittany Rescue.
Thanks to all the sponsors, walkers and supporters of our 18th Wagswalk. We could not do this without you. No matter what amount we raise, 100% goes to canine charities. We are very thankful, especially in this economy, for the generosity of the Lebanon County community.
